About me

My name is Rain Gatrell and I am a third-year Marine Biology student at Northeastern University. I have an interest in animals of all types since I was very young, but I was always infatuated with marine animals and how they work. In pursuit of my goals within this field, I have decided to apply to the Three Seas program.

Since I was child, I have spent every summer anticipating Shark Week, and would try to absorb as much information as I could. At the time, much of the scientific lingo went over my head, but this only motivated me to learn more, so one day I could be one of those researchers swimming with the sharks that I saw on TV. Because of the location of my boarding high school, I did not have much access to the ocean, but this did not stop my pursuit of knowledge. I took many advanced classes, including an advanced biology class, where we were able to dissect a shark and learn about their biological makeup. This experience only grew my desire to learn as much as I could about marine animals.

Growing up on a costal state, I have personal experience with the local ecosystem. No matter how close I got to the ocean, it was never close enough. I aspire to learn as much as I can and to share my findings with the world in an effort to preserve this delicate ecosystem that keeps our world alive.
